Name: Saïx
Alignment: Neutral
Occupation: Mercenary

In the outskirts of Romania far away from the hustle and bustle of the city Saïx began his life. Born the first son to a family of farmers his childhood was brief. By the age of five his father had him working hard to earn his keep and by the age of eight he was turned out. The boy was sent to start his own life having been taught all he could be by his family who were too poor with six other children to keep him any longer. Despite not knowing the reason behind their coldness the boy never complained. There was nothing but starvation and endless toil to leave behind or to look forward to.

Owing his sturdiness to years of backbreaking child labor on whatever farm would allow him to work he didn't wish to remain hired muscle. Even at the tender age of twelve he was unsatisfied with living his days out as hired help and decided he would better himself, somehow. Many of his employers found the child completely willing to fulfill any task if only to have something to do. He never complained or bickered with other hired hands. It was only when others hindered his ability to complete the job that the child would lash out. A fellow farm hand made an attempt to scare the boy off and gain his portion of work, and pay. It was at that time that Saïx's temper shown for the first time. Leaving the body in the field he fled, at a walking pace, from the scene and eventually the country.

In Hungary the young man then fourteen, found work with a doctor. His services were used at the clinic to dig graves and haul bodies. It was there he learned the value of education if little else. Believing that school would grant him the easy life those that hired him had he set his mind to somehow getting it. He only worked himself harder with that goal in mind, saving any and every scraping he was given extra. But life was playing a cruel joke. It began to seem the older he got, the less he had to show for it and his dreams seemed that much further out of reach.

At seventeen years of age he realized that his dream would remain impossible until he could somehow acquire more then what he needed to get by. Traveling north into Austria to find work delivering packages he caught wind of an opportunity, education and money. A program sponsored by a pharmaceutical company offering complete accommodations for potential subjects in their study of a new drug. It called for persons between the ages of 15 and 20 with average to above average health and physical fitness, something he found he was fit for.

Delighted at the prospect he eagerly signed up. It couldn't be worse then what he was doing, right? Saïx soon found himself being shipped off with a number of other individuals, desperate for the opportunity to better themselves. No mention was made of where they were taken. None of them had expected that for the next two years they would be subjected to less then humane treatment in a facility they had no clue even where. Kept on a steady stream of sedatives and inhibitors they were trained, educated, and subjected to numerous tests. 'Enhancement' the scientists referred to it when usually it was little more then an excuse to outright torture the young men. Saïx was inflicted with ocular enhancements specific to giving him perfect night vision, steroids, and any number of test compounds closely related to experimental DNA enhancement. The experiments had a radical effect on the young man's body and appearance. His once dark hair and eyes were drastically altered and the lupine enhanced steroids altered his body mass giving him increased speed and balance in his movement. The training he and others were subjected to did not leave them unscathed either.

After almost seven years of living that way the company was bought out and the program trashed. Scheduled for termination the surviving test subjects and scientists attempted to escape the doomed facility. Saïx and only two others actually made it out alive. Hunted and alone Saïx traveled south through Germany. He wouldn't stay long finding no work available to him so long he remained there. Briefly he remained in Austria finding work in at a tailors but when the business was burned down and the owner found dead he continued his traveling southward when he was offered a job as pest control on a ranch. That job too did not last as the Ranch burned down not a month after hiring him. A pattern formed as every time the man found a place to work some tragedy forced him to move on. He was beginning to like traveling.

Four years he traveled south through Italy taking jobs for a month or less and leaving, disaster after disaster. Most often it was some damage to property and on rare occasion a death or two was involved. When he wasn't working Saïx dedicated his time to learning the language and culture or training himself physically. Always choosing to live alone he never made friends with coworkers or employers. He was offered a job loading ships and after his third loading the captain thought he might be useful on board offering a raise and lodging.

That ship arrived empty save for one man. Unable to sail the boat was run aground and Saïx walked away from the remains of the crew and some days later found himself in the lively city of Reggio Calabria.
